compact bone
Think of it as a brick wall – super dense and strong on the outside of the bone, made of tiny repeating bricks (osteons).
Cervical Vertebrae
Think "Collar" – These are the vertebrae that support your collar.
Atlas Vertebrae
a ring with no body (no chunky part in the middle), and it's the very top one that directly supports your head, letting you nod "yes." (C1)
Axis Vertebrae
"axis of rotation." This vertebra has a prominent "tooth" or "peg" sticking up (the odontoid process or dens) that the Atlas (C1) rotates around, allowing you to shake your head "no." Look for the "tooth" on the top!
Thoracic Vertebrae
They have a heart-shaped body and attach to ribs
Lumbar Vertebrae
L for Large and Load-bearing. They look like a kidney bean and are super strong.
Sacrum
a "Sacred Triangle" or a "wedge-shaped shield" at the base of your spine
Coccyx (Tailbone)
Think of it as a tiny, upside-down "ice cream cone" made of fused segments
Intervertebral Discs
The "cushions" between bones
Intervertebral Foramen
"FOR A MEN" (nerves). These are the holes or openings between vertebrae where spinal nerves "exit" or pass through. Look for distinct gaps or openings between the bones.
True Ribs
Think "To the Sternum." These ribs have a direct connection to the Sternum (breastbone) via their own cartilage.
False Ribs
don't have their own direct line to the sternum. Instead, they share a piece of cartilage to reach it, making their connection look indirect. You'll see a bundle of cartilage joining before hitting the sternum.
Floating Ribs
Look for the "shorties with no ties!" They're the last two pairs at the very bottom that don't connect to anything at the front of the chest.
Sternum
a "necktie" or a "dagger" right in the middle of your chest. It's the bone that your ribs attach to at the front
Hyoid Bone
Think of it as a "U-shaped necklace" floating high up in your throat, not touching any other bone. It's truly independent like a "floating island."
Which bone forms the front of the skull and your forehead? (Hint: It's in FRONT of your thoughts!)
Frontal Bone
Which bones form the sides and roof of your skull? (Tip: 'Parietal' sounds like 'Parade' hat top!)

Which ribs don’t attach to anything in the front? (Memory: They’re 'floating' like free agents)
Floating Ribs (11–12)
Which part of the sternum is the small pointed tip at the bottom? (Hint: Sounds like a sword—'Xiphoid')
