Inference

Mood
The atmosphere or pervading feeling in a literary work.
Context Clues
Hints found within a sentence, paragraph, or passage that a reader can use to understand the meanings of new or unfamiliar words.
Definition Clue
A context clue in which the meaning of an unfamiliar word is directly stated in the sentence.
Synonym Clue
A context clue in which a word with a similar meaning to the unfamiliar word is used in the sentence.
Antonym Clue
A context clue in which a word with the opposite meaning to the unfamiliar word is used in the sentence.
Example Clue
A context clue in which examples or illustrations of the unfamiliar word are provided in the sentence or surrounding text.
General Knowledge Clue
Using prior knowledge and experience to infer the meaning of an unfamiliar word within the context.
Denotation
The literal or primary meaning of a word, in contrast to the feelings or ideas that the word suggests.
