what is a reverseable reaction
a reaction that can take place in both the forward and reverse directions because most reactions do not go to completion, they just appear to stop bc they are reversible
what can reversible reactions lead to
equilibrium, if forward and reverse rates are equal (appears to stop)
what does a double arrow mean
used to combine 2 equations into a single equation to show that both reactions occur at the same time
evaporation
liquid → gas without reaching boiling point
condensation
vapourization
precipitation
are the rates of both directions in a reversible reaction always equal?
no, sometimes formation of reactants favored (happens faster) over products and vice versa. both directions have a rate. how arrow is drawn tells you about it
the bigger arrow means
that directions rate/formation/consumption is faster/favoured/greater
decomp vs synthesis
