Mastisol
A topical adhesive; retains bandages longer; place before steri-strips (looks yellow)
Benzoin
Similar to mastisol; is a topical brown colored adhesive; provides tackiness to allow tape to adhere longer. Best for facial areas, around mouth and eyes. (looks red)
Steri-strips
Adhesive strips dress; come in 1/4-, ½ -, and 1-inch widths.
Dermabond (always purple)
Liquid skin adhesive used to close wounds(used without bandage) (like glue)
Vaseline gauze
Absorbent gauze impregnated with white petrolatum (not adhesive)
Tegaderm/op-site
Transparent adhesive dressing, frequently used by anesthesia to cover IV lines (thin)
Adaptic
Ideal for most draining wound. Coated with a petrolatum emulsion to prevent dressing adherence while allowing exudate to easily pass through the absorbent layer
ABD pad
Thick, absorbent pad for abdominal wound
Suture bolsters
Used when passing retention sutures; distributes the pressure and prevent the heavy retention sutures from cutting into the patient skin.
Montgomery strap
Used as abdominal wounds when multiple dressing changes are anticipated.
Nu-Gauze Plain/ Iodoform Gauza
Cotton gauze strips that are used for packing or as drainage conduits in wound care management applications, such as nasal or sinus packing, boils, abscesses, fistulas, and other draining or tunneling wounds. Iodoform gauze contains 5% iodoform (an antiseptic agent) and is stained yellow in color
Penrose drain
Gravity drain placed in the wound; passive drain; also used to retract spermatic cord during inguinal hernia surgery.
Clip applier/ clips Open, or Endo
V-shaped staples that close down and occlude a vessel; available small medium, large; may be disposable or non-disposable (requires clip cartridge)
Hamonic scalpel and Cord
Cuts and coagulates with minimal latera tissue damage, laparoscopic and open procedures. Uses ultrasonic vibration instead of electric current to cut and cauterize tissue
Argon coagulator
Bovid and argon coagulator in same hand piece (kidney/liver cases because they bleed a lot)
Umbilical tape
Cotton; pass moist; used for retraction (ALWAYS pass it wet)
Visceral retractor or “flounder”
Protects abdominal contents while suturing (pass moistened) and is radiopaque
LDS Stapler
Ligates, Divides, Staples. Single use stapler that places two titanium staples to ligate tissue within the cartridge jaw and a knife which divides the tissue between the two close staples. Abdominal, gynecological, orthopedic, and thoracic surgery.
TA Stapler
Thoracic/ abdominal resection and transection. B-shaped staples, provide hemostasis, but is non-crushing to prevent tissue necrosis. Cartilage come in lengths of 30, 55, & 90 mm/ different colors.
Multifire/ Linear GIA Stapler
Place two double staggered rows of titanium staples. Cuts and divides the tissue between the two double rows at the same time. The staplers & reloads are available in various sizes. Anastomoses in abdominal/ gastrointestinal, gynecological, pediatric and thoracic surgery.
Endo GIA Stapler
Same as Linear GIA, but longer for use during endoscopic/ laparoscopic procedures.
Roticulating GIA stapler
Same as Endo GIA but head roticualtes for difficult anastomoses
Purse-string Stapler
Places temporary purse-string closures by placing circumferential stand of 2-0 monofilament nylon suture. Used for intestinal, colorectal, and esophageal surgeries.
EEA Circular Stapler
end-to-end, side-to-side, or end-to-side anastomoses; general, thoracic, bariatric surgery
Colostomy Ileostomy Bag
Diseased portions of bowel are removed. The remaining portion of the bowel is rerouted by creating a hole in the abdomen (Stoma) so that the feces can exit the body and empty into the bag. May be permanent or temporary
D-Help (5 Pieces)
D-Help Unit (Igloo), Micro Pad (x-ray detectable) x 2, Trocar Wipe/Q-tip (x-ray detectable). Defogs (Activate 5 min. before to warm solution in unit), White balances, and cleans Laparoscope
Scope Warmer
Lay Scope in Warmer and Flex Disk 2 to 3 times to imitate warming action
Seprafilm
Adhesion barrier that reduces adhesions (scar tissue) formation in open abdominal and pelvic surgeries
Surgical Mesh
Woven screen-like material that is used as a reinforcement to repair/prevent hernia. Sizes and material will vary according to type of hernia
Ligasure
Laparoscopic/endoscopic surgeries. Creates hemostasis by vessel compression and obliteration through blunt bipolar tips.
Endoclose
Trocar site closure device. Stylet/end retracts as the needle is pushed through the abdominal wall. Automatically advances once the peritoneum has been penetrated. used with 2-0 or 0 vicryl suture ties.
Carter Thomason
Similar to Endoclose. It is a port closure device.
Endoloop
Ligature loop is placed then the scored end snaps and is pulled upward to tighten the loop to secure suture knot/tie
J Hook
Laparoscopic Electrode that replaces bovie tip to cauterize/dissect tissue
Endostitch Device and Suture
Single use endoscopic suturing device that has two jaws. Commonly used in OB/GYN procedures for Uterine closure
