Ventilation:Perfusion (V/Q) Ratio
The ratio that indicates the relationship between ventilation and perfusion in the lungs.
V/Q Mismatch
A condition where ventilation and perfusion in the lungs are not adequately matched.
Shunt
A situation in which there is ventilation without perfusion, resulting in a V/Q ratio of 0.
Pulmonary Embolism
A blockage in a pulmonary artery, leading to a V/Q ratio of infinity, characterized by ventilation without perfusion.
Hypoxemia
Decreased arterial oxygen levels, which can result from various causes including V/Q mismatch.
Pulmonary Edema
A condition characterized by excess fluid in the lungs, impairing gas exchange and ventilation.
Low Flow Disorder
Conditions like pulmonary embolism that lead to decreased blood flow to the lungs.
High Pressure Disorders
Conditions such as left heart failure that lead to increased pressure in pulmonary circulation.
Surfactant
A substance that reduces surface tension in the alveoli, preventing collapse.
Restrictive Condition
A type of lung condition where lung expansion is restricted, often associated with increased work of breathing.
