Gonorrhea

Caused by Neisseria Gonorrhea

symptoms : in men- painful pee & pus

women- little to no symptoms

• Fimbriae - attachment

• opa proteins -prevent T-cell activation

• IgA protase -breaks down IgA

• antigenic variability - changes its surface

attaches to the epotheail lining

can progress to PID

Nongonococcal urethritis ( NGU)

inflammation of urethra

caused by : trachomatous & mycoplasma gentium

Symptoms : painfil urination & water discarge

can develop into PID

Pelvic inflammatory Disease( PID)

caused by : c. trichromats and N.Gonorrhoea

symptoms:

• lower ab pain'

• inflammation of & infection of pelvic organs

can develop into

• salpingitis

salpingitis

scar tissue

• impairing function affecting uterine tubes

• infertility & pregnancy complications

lymphogranuloma venerum ( LGV)

caused by : c. trichromats

symptoms :

• infecting lymphoid tissue

• forms buboes

• Intercellular

• has two forms

cause : treponema palladium

stages and sympyoms :

1. primary- painless chance % becomes systemic

2. secondary - rash on plam/soles

3. Latent - no symp, last years

4. Tertiary - most painful,fummas appear yrs later

• antigenic variation

  can be congential and cause neurological damage in baby

some strains cause YAWS

Genital herpes

caused by : herpes simpexvirus 2 (HSV-2)

Symptoms :

• vesical on genitals

• ‘painful pee

can cross the placenta; barrier & infect fetus

miscarriage or death

exposure during delivery

v factor :

• ICP proteins ( infected cell proteins ) —> inhibt AVP that then inhibut CD8 + activation

• glycoproteins

  • gE & gC - bind where WBC bind stoping them from doing their job

• can reactivate due to stress, illness , menstration

Genital warts

cause : human papilloma-viruses ( HPV)

v-factor

• oncoproteins E6 and E7 inhibit our tumor suppressing proteins

HPV species 7&9 cause

cervical cancer

HPV species 6& 11 cause

genital warts

Trichomoniasis

Causes by : trichomonas vaginalis

symptoms:

• irrtation

• green/yellow discharge

• foul odor

male -urethra infection & pus

women- strawberry pattern

factors:

• lypoglycans ( TVLG) —> attachment to epithelial lining

• cysteine protease —> induces apoptosis of epithelial cell + inflammation

trichomonas vaginalis is a

Protozoan ( its a trick)

bacterial vaginosis

caused by : Gardnerella vaginalis

• decrease in lactobacilli allows the bacteria to grow

symptoms :

• grey white discarge

• foul odor

• due cells

men - painful pee + pus

caused by : c.albicans
