Regular -ar Verbs in the Preterite

bailar = to dance

• yo- bail==é==
• tú- bail==aste==
• Ud./él/ella- bail==ó==
• nosotros/as- bail==amos==
• vosotros/as- bail==asteis ==
• ellos/ellas- bail==aron==

Verbs that end in ==-car, -gar, and -zar== have spelling changes in the yo form to keep the k, hard g, and soft c sounds, respectively

• tocar: -car → qu : to==qué==
• pagar: -gar → gu : pa==gué==
• empezar: -zar → c : empe==cé==

tocar= to play (an instrument)

pagar= to pay

empezar= to start
