He becomes so angry looking at the portrait of himself that he stabs it with the knife he used to murder Basil Hallward with right in the chest. As a result of this his appearance turns into the old, and evil looking man that he was meant to look like and dies with the knife in his chest, while the portrait returns to how it looked when it was originally painted. He was found by his servants and a few police officers, whom were only able to identify him by his rings.
