Nubian

Characteristics- very long floppy ears that should extend about 1 inch beyond the muzzle and should have a convex (Roman) nose

Important Traits- milk tends to be higher in protein and butter fat content than other breeds

Saanen

Origin- Switzerland

Color-pure white or light cream, but white is preferred

Characteristics- ears should be a medium size and carried erect, preferably pointing forward.

Important Traits- the largest of all breeds second most popular breed of dairy goat in the US

Toggenburg

Use- Dairy

Origin- Switzerland

Color-range in color from light fawn to dark chocolate and have white ears and white on their lower legs side of the tail and two stripes down the face must also be white

Characteristics- erect ears and they grow a shaggier coat

Important Traits- the oldest registered breed of any kind of livestock

Nigerian Dwarf

 only dairy breed known to occasionally have blue eyes. Both brown and blue eyed animals are encountered

Sable

Sables are colored Saanens. Saanens are white or light cream, any other colors are registered as Sables. All other characteristics are the same as the Saanens.
