1st Amendment

5 freedoms; religion, speech, press, assembly, and petition. Separation of church and state.

2nd Amendment

Right to bear arms.

3rd Amendment

No quartering of soldiers without the consent of the owner. Only by law during times of war.

4th Amendment

No unreasonable searches of someones' property or breaking or entering with out the owners consent or a search warrant

5th Amendment

Innocent until proven guilty, Right to grand jury, protection against double Jeopardy, self-incrimination (remain silent), just compensation for eminent domain.

6th Amendment

Right to a speedy and public trial, with help of a lawyer (provided if not affordable),impartial jury, informed of the charges, the right to confront witnesses in criminal cases.

7th Amendment

In common law, right to trial by jury in civil cases. No reexamination of facts (no overturning by federal court)

8th Amendment

No excessive fines or bails, and no cruel or unusual punishment is to be inflicted.

9th Amendment

Guarantees obvious rights, like the right to travel and rights not specifically mentioned in the Bill of Rights.

10th Amendment

Rights not specifically given to the national government are retained by the people and State.

14th Ammendment

Grants citizenship to anyone born in the U.S., forbids states from denying anyone "life, liberty, or property, without due process of law," and requires states to provide "equal protection of the laws" to all people

15th Ammendment

Right of United States citizens to vote cannot be denied or restricted by any state or the federal government based on a person's race, color, or prior history as an enslaved person

22nd amendment

Prohibits anyone who has been elected president twice from being elected to the office again

Allowed for the direct popular election of senators
