New cards

What are operational definitions of variables?

The procedure used to measure or manipulate a variable

2
New cards

What is validity?

Think truth! The true measure of something

given everything that is known, a conclusion appears accurate. Does it make sense?
Validity is concerned with how well the instrument (operationalization) measures what we want it to measure (accuracy).

3
New cards

Of the 4 types of validity, what is construct validity ?

Are we measuring the correct concept? - measure accurately represents variable being studied

4
New cards

of the 4 types of validity, what is Internal validity?

How true are the study results for the people in the study

the accuracy of conclusions drawn about cause and effect inside the study

5
New cards

Of the 4 types of validity, what is External Validity?

Can the results of the study be applied to generalized populations outside of the study?

6
New cards

Of the 4 types of validity, what is statistical validity?

the accuracy of statistical conclusions drawn from the results of a research investigation.

Think do the numbers make sense?

7
New cards

In terms of measurement what is reliability?

Reliability is concerned with how consistent an instrument (operationalization) is with a measure (repeatability).

8
New cards

What is test-retest reliability?

measuring the same individuals at two different points in time and comparing results.

Ex.) a stress survey gives similar scores when taken this week and next week

A high correlation between test and retest indicates reliability

9
New cards

What is parallel-forms reliability?

uses two different forms of the same test for testing instead of repeating the same test. (Think versión A and B of a test)

This avoids problems with participants remembering and repeating earlier responses.

10
New cards

What is inter-rater reliability?

different raters/observers give consistent estimates of the same phenomenon. - different people mesure the same thing

Ex.) two nueves measure the same patients blood pressure and get similar readings

11
New cards

What is internal consistency reliabilty?

Think ítem Consistency do te questions in the survey all relate to the same measure same variable
