what must happen before cells divide
semi conservative dna replication
step 1
enzyme dna helicade unwinds the double helix by breaking hydrogen bonds between the bases of the 2 dna strands
step 2
each original strand acts as a template to build a new strand, free nucleotides are attracted to exposed bases on template strands, attach through complementary base pairing
step 3
free nucleotides join to the new strands with condensation reactions catalysed by the enzyme DNA polymerase, forming hydrogen bonds between the bases on the two new strands
step 5
each new dna molecule contains one strand from the original dna and one new strand
what did watson and crick discover?
the structure of DNA
what did watson and crick hypothesise?
that dna either replicated conservatively or semi-conservatively
