This is the name of a trend in Japan where people isolate themselves from society for long periods of time. This is usually seen from ages 16- 39

Kodokushi

This term translates to ‘lonely deaths‘. People die and they are undiscovered for long periods of time.

This Japanese term refers to death caused by overwork, often linked to extreme stress and long working hours.

Parasocial Interaction

Meta Crisis

A term used to describe how there are shifts in population age. This is particularly for when there are more older aged population than younger aged.

This is a law based in USA which states that social media platforms are not responsible for any of content posted by the users and any harm implied to the users by the company’s algorithm. It provides like a global immunity to platforms.

National Broadband Network (NBN)

A government initiative in Australia aimed at providing high-speed internet access to all households and businesses, enhancing connectivity and digital services across the country. This was announced as done in 2009 but the network has still not been delivered to all the households.

Fibber-To-The-Premises (FTTP)

It was a type of technology used by the NBN project to deliver high-speed network connections to individual premises. This was the original plan but because the new government though it was too slow and expensive, they changed it to FTTN.

Fibber-To-The-Node (FTTN)

This was another type of technology used in the NBN project once the project was revised. This project uses Multi-Technology Mix (MTM). This used different technologies such as already existing copper wires.

High-Speed-Rail

This was a project proposed for Canada’s railway network where they wanted the speed of the trains to increase but ended up with the frequency to increase because of financial hurdles.
