what is a wave?
waves transfer energy and information but without transferring any material
what is an oscillation?
a regular forward or backward motion
what is a traverse wave?
the waves travel AWAY from the source, the direction is at a right angle, the coils do not travel horizontally
what is a longitude wave?
the wave travels AWAY from the source, the direction of the wave is parallel, the coils do not travel horizontally
what is the wave equation?
wave speed=frequency x wavelength
wave speed = m/s frequency= Hz wavelength = m
what are examples of traverse waves?
waves on a slinky, sound, p-waves (earthquakes)
what are examples of longitude waves?
electromagnetic waves, waves on a rope, ripples on surface of water
