The Stages of Behavior Change
Pre-contemplation
A stage in behavior change wherein you are unaware of the problem.
Contemplation
A stage in behavior change wherein you are aware of the problem and of desired behavior change.
Preparation
A stage in behavior change wherein you intend to take action.
Action
A stage in behavior change wherein you practice the desired behavior.
Maintenance
A stage in behavior change wherein you work to sustain the behavior change.
Exercise Prescription
Refers to the specific plan of fitness-related activities that are designed for a specified purpose, which is often developed by a fitness or rehabilitation specialist for the client or patient.
Somatotype or Body type
A system of classifying an individual according to the shape of the body.
Ectomorph
Characterized as lean and small body build with a greater surface area to mass ratio. Bone size is relatively small with slender limbs and low muscle mass.
Mesomorph
Has a relative predominance of muscles. The bones are usually large and heavy with massive limbs, thus contributing to greater weight than the ectomorph body type.
Endomorph
Characterized by a relative predominance of soft roundness and large digestive viscera. There is a greater percentage of body fat when compared to lean body mass.
