Cueing

Cueing

use of signals to indicate that a certain behavior is desired or that a certain behavior should stop

Converting Measures

Changing one measurement to another, ex Feet to Inches, or Feet to Meters.

Care Planning

The act of creating a care plan for a resident based on their condition and requirements.

Care Impaired

Doing most if not all of the ADLs for an impaired resident

Circulation

the movement of substances within the body in body fluids

Cardiovascular System

System responsible for the transport of oxygen throughout the body, centered around the heart.

Cold Press

a cold folded and moistened cloth or towel that is placed over a small area of the body for moist cold therapy

COPD

chronic obstructive pulmonary disease; chronic bronchitis - bronchiole lining inflamed, excess mucus formed; emphysema - walls of alveoli break down; HYPOXIC DRIVE (not in asthma)

Comfort Care

(Palliative Care) Treatment given to people who have serious life-threatening diseases; goals are to control symptoms reduce suffering prevent side effects and complications and maintain quality of life

Care

An action, outlined in the care plan, that is supposed to maintain the wellness of the resident.

Call Light

allows the patient to call for help via light and/or sound

Cancer

disorder in which some of the body's own cells lose the ability to control growth

Burns

Injury caused by heat or chemical exposure

Sudden, unexpected stopping of heart action; sudden cardiac death

Cataract

eye disease in which the lens becomes covered in an opaque film that affects sight, eventually causing total blindness.

Condition of lowered cognitive abilities, could include memory, problem solving, critical thinking, communication, etc.

A system of learned beliefs and behaviors that is practiced by a group of people and is often passed on from one generation to the next.

Cold/Heat Application

The act of using a hot or cold compress to a resident to treat a condition, injury, etc.

Care Plan

A written plan for each resident created by a nurse; outlines the steps taken by the staff to help the resident reach his or her goals

Chain of Command

Choking

A blocking of the airway, can induce coughing, cyanotic response.

A tube inserted into the urethra to remove urine from patients who are incontinent, fed into a urine bag.
