Martin Luther

Protested against the church, triggered the revolt. Through his writings he was a very significant historian

Charles V

He tried to force Lutheran princes back into the Catholic Church.

John Calvin

Priest and lawyer, in 1536, he published a book about his religious beliefs and how to run a Protestant church.

Indulgence 

An indulgence was a lessening of the time a soul would have to spend in purgatory, a place where souls too impure to enter heaven atoned for sins committed during their lifetime.  

Wittenberg

A town where Luther saw something to cause him to take action.

Comes from a Middle English word meaning “a day for a meeting”

The idea that God had long ago determined who would gain salvation.
