strengths
love as a guiding principle is hard to object to
relativistic so very flexible and can deal with everyday scenarios
it is a person-centred ethic, placing people above rules at all times
solves problem of conflicting duties
can be applied to a scenario quickly
love centred ethics is appealing and relatively uncontroversial
weaknesses
vague, to ‘do the most loving thing’ does not offer much guidance for the moral agent
‘only the end justifies the means’, there are no moral boundaries on our actions, everything can be permitted given an extreme situation
teleological theory; we cannot accurately predict the future
it is unclear when a situation begins and ends; what is a situation?
