how do we communicate with mobile phones

with cells a cell has base stations around the edge and when you use a phone it sends a uplink data to the base station and then downlinks it with different hz to avoid interference

2
New cards

what does increased frequency mean

increased frequency means a greater bandwidth which allows for more data and channels to be transferred

3
New cards

why do mobile phones use microwaves instead of radio waves

because microwaves have a higher hz then radio waves which means they have a higher bandwidth which means more data and channels to be transferred

so they can also communicate with satellites as radio waves get absorbed by the ionosphere so they cannot reach the satellite where as microwaves can because they have shorter wavelengths and higher frequency

4
New cards

disadvantages of mobile phones

1.say you are in a mountain area you might get tv reception but poor mobile reception this is since mobile phones use microwaves they have shorter wavelengths and hz so they don’t diffract around obstacles as much whereas radio waves have bigger wavelengths and shorter hz they can diffract and still reach you

2.rain absorbs microwaves so you might not receive good mobile reception during heavy rain

5
New cards

what does wifi allow

Wi-Fi allows devices like mobile phones, or computers to be connected to the internet via router this is called a network

6
New cards

advantages of Wi-Fi

Wi-Fi uses higher frequency microwaves then mobile phones this allows them to carry more information

they can also travel through walls and don’t need a line of sight

7
New cards

what are Bluetooth used for

they are used to link one device to others such as mobile phone to headphones or car audio

8
New cards

what is frequency hopping

frequency hopping is when the frequency changes continuously on many devices connected to one Bluetooth so that they do not have the same frequencies and interfere

9
New cards

advantages of Bluetooth

one advantage of Bluetooth is that they can travel through walls and do not need a line of sight

they also can connect to more then one device and use frequency hopping which limits data loss to interference

10
New cards

what is infrared used for

for tv remote controls such as tv remotes, projectors

11
New cards

do they have low or high hz

they have the highest hz bigger then all 3 and they can transfer the most data because of high bandwidth

12
New cards

are they long range or short range

they are the shortest range so its a low powered device

13
New cards

advantages

very high hz and bandwidth

14
New cards

disadvantages

only able to use in line of sight, cant use in sunlight, absorbed by moisture so cannot use in rain or fog as effectively
