What are the objectives of the Urinary System Embryology lecture?
To understand the development of the urinary system, how the collecting and excretory systems develop, and the adult derivative structures related to urinary physiology.
What are the stages of kidney development?
The stages are Pronephros, Mesonephros, and Metanephros.
Where does the Pronephros stage occur?
In the cervical region and begins around week 4 of development.
What occurs during the Mesonephros stage?
It appears as the pronephros is resorbing and derives from the upper thoracic to upper lumbar regions.
What is the Metanephros stage?
The definitive stage of kidney development that appears around the fifth week.
What is the function of the Ureteric Bud?
It gives rise to the ureter, renal pelvis, major and minor calyces, and collecting tubules.
What are nephrons?
The excretory units of the kidney that form from tubules and glomeruli.
Describe the connection between the kidney ascent and the development of the bladder.
The kidneys begin in the pelvic region and shift to the abdomen due to body curvature and growth of lumbar and sacral regions.
What happens to the mesonephric ducts during bladder development?
They undergo morphological changes and are absorbed into the wall of the urinary bladder.
What creates the urinary bladder and urethra during development?
The urogenital sinus develops into the urinary bladder and part of the urethra, with structures also defined by the mesonephric ducts.
