what is the doctrine of the trinity
the centerpiece of Christian belief and theology, by definition the Christian God is a triune God, three Persons- God the Father, Jesus the Son, and the Holy Spirit

the idea that God is one but in three persons that all co exist and a re coequal at the same time. the church states that the doctrine of the trinity os s mystery and is indescribable and highlights how we can never understand it.

1. Adoptism - jesu was an ordinary man who became the son of God through his baptism
2. sabellianism - Jesus was divine but had no human form
3. Arianism - Jesus was the highest created being but wa snot God. God is impassimabe and the incarnation is not possible. Jesus was subordinate to God
4. modalism - not distinct forms but three modes of existence
5. Tritheism - three separate gods

What is the Filioque controversy?
controversy in the Church questioning if the Holy Spirit proceeded from the Father OR from the Father and the Son. Pope Benedict VIIIII, he added that ' we believed in the Holy Spirit, the lord the giver of life who proceeds from the father and the son. this added controversy as it was not agreed across all denominations which lead to the west east split of the churches. Iy shifts the hierarchic and power within the trinity leading to the great schism

signifies what Gos is. Three persons but one God

signifies what God does, father creates, son redeems and the holy spirit sacrifices

what are some problems whit Barths ideas
- problems merging the immanent trinity and the economic trinity because of the differences with east and west
- Barths theory suggests that all of the persons of the trinity do not co exist which challanges the core belief of the Trinity was then they would become separate Gods
- the basic premise of the trinity does not make sense how ca all three be one
