Ovaries
Two small organs about the size of an almond that release estrogen, progesterone, and mature egg cells.
Ovulation
The process by which the ovaries release one ripened egg every month.
Ovarian Cyst
A growth on the inside of the ovary.
Fallopian Tubes
Two small tubes that carry released eggs from the ovaries and where fertilization occurs.
Cilia
Tiny hairs in the fallopian tubes that help move the egg.
Uterus
A pear-shaped organ where the fertilized egg develops and grows into a baby.
Endometrium
The lining of the uterus that fills with blood supply to protect and nourish a fetus.
Cervix
The base of the uterus.
Endometriosis
A condition where tissue from the lining of the uterus grows outside of the uterus.
Vagina
Also known as the birth canal, it has elastic walls that expand for childbirth.
Menstrual Cycle
The average cycle lasts 28 days, can range from 21 to 35 days.
Menstrual Period
The phase of the cycle that lasts 3-5 days and may cause symptoms like mood swings, headaches, and bloating.
Toxic Shock Syndrome
A bacterial infection that may occur from using tampons, causing rash, high fever, vomiting, and diarrhea.
Menopause
The end of sexual reproduction and menstruation.
