12 Central Attributes of Love

The twelve key qualities defined by Beverley Fehr that characterize love: Trust, Loyalty, Care, Commitment, Honesty, Acceptance, Friendship, Support, Respect, Desire to be with the partner, Desire to promote well-being, Consideration for the partner.

Trust

The foundation of love that allows individuals to expose themselves fully to one another without fear of judgment.

Care

The act of nurturing and maintaining a loving relationship through attention, tenderness, and empathy.

Honesty

The quality of being straightforward and transparent in a relationship, involving the truthful expression of feelings and thoughts.

Friendship

A relationship that shares characteristics with love, where both individuals can be themselves without fear and provide mutual support.

Respect

The recognition and acceptance of another person’s individuality, including their beliefs and values.

Loyalty

A commitment to support and protect someone in a relationship, remaining steadfast during challenges.

Commitment

The act of dedicating oneself to a relationship, involving responsibility and integrity towards maintaining it.

Support

Emotional and practical assistance given between partners, demonstrating compassion and understanding in times of need.

Desire to Promote Well-being of the Other

The inherent motivation to support and encourage the emotional and physical health of one's partner.

Accepting the Other Without Wanting to Change the Other

The ability to embrace a partner's true self without attempting to modify their identity.
