AP Latin Pliny Letter 10.7 Translation

Traiānus Plīniō salūtem dicit,

Trajan greets Pliny.

Cīvitātem Alexandrīnam secundum īnstitūtiōnem prīncipum nōn temere dare prōposuī.

I have resolved not rashly to grant Alexandrian citizenship, according to the regulation of the emperors.

Sed cum Arpocrātī, iātraliptae tuō, iam cīvitātem Rōmānam impetrāverīs,

But since you have already obtained Roman citizenship for Arpocrates, your ointment-maker,

huic quoque petītiōnī tuae negāre nōn sustineō.

I do not have the heart to refuse this request of yours also.

Tū, ex quō nomō sit, nōtum mihi facere dēbēbis,

You will have to make known to me from which nome (district) he is,

ut epistulam tibi ad Pompēium Plantam praefectum Aegyptī amīcum meum mittam.
