New cards

general test taking rules

  • don’t waste too much time on any question

  • if ur stuck, mark to double check and move on to other questions

  • skip and come back to longer/more time consuming questions

2
New cards

english module rules

  1. read question

  2. read stimulus (+searching for the answer)

  3. eliminate & pick answer choice

  • double-check all questions after - no silly mistakes

3
New cards

commas

  • seperate list items

  • used to enclose nonessential elements from the sentence

  • link dependent clauses to independent clauses

  • link indep clauses together with a coordinating conjunction

4
New cards

semicolon

  • link independent clauses that are highly related in content (WITHOUT a conjunction)

  • separate items in a list that already contains commas

5
New cards

colon

  • can ONLY come at the end of an independent clause

  • introduces a noun, list, or independent clause

  • info coming after a colon must expand on/explain what comes before

6
New cards

dashes

  • used to seperate nonessential elements (parenthetical material) from a sentence

  • used for interjectory material or to introduce a list/explanation at the end of a sentence

7
New cards

paranthesis

  • used to enclose nonessential parenthetical information

8
New cards

apostrophe/possession rule

use an apostrophe + s in all cases except:
the noun is plural and ends in S

ex.
singular possession: chris’s book
plural possession: women’s rights
plural posession with noun ending in s: the schools’ curriculum

9
New cards

subject - verb agreement

singular verbs end in -s, plural verbs do not

10
New cards

reading/writing section tips

  • check for pronoun agreement

  • read the whole passage - don’t skim/read only the part where the question is focused

  • check other verbs to make sure the tenses agree

  • identify the subject of a verb/word so you can conjugate it to the proper tense/plurality

New cards

desmos tools quick guide

  • for distance between points
    distance((x, y), (x, y))

  • for midpoint
    midpoint((x, y), (x, y))

  • for measures of statistics
    mean/median/stdev(a, b, c…)

  • when given a table of numbers
    1. add table onto desmos
    2. hit regression symbol: can give slope, equation, y/x intercept

  • for constant questions
    1. make custom regression using ~ instead of = to relate both equations
    2. add subscript 1 for x & y

    3. define the range of x1 (just do -10…10)
    4. type in the equation of whatever u need to find/use a constant slider to find answers

  • when given a system of equations: add both into desmos and find intersections

  • when given any equation: put into desmos and find zeros for solutions/intercepts/points etc.

12
New cards

slope of a line formula

m= y2-y1 / x2-x1

13
New cards

slope intercept formula

y=mx+b

14
New cards

point-slope form formula

y-y1 = m (x-x1)

15
New cards

lenght of a circle arc

L = (n/360)2πr

16
New cards

area of a sector formula

A = (n/360)πr²

17
New cards

circle equation

(x-h)²+(y-k)²=r²
r= radius
center = (h, k)

18
New cards

exponential growth/decay

y=a(1±r)^t

a= initial value
r= growth/decay rate (in decimal)
t= time

19
New cards

special right triangles

20
New cards

pythagorean triples

3, 4, 5
5, 12, 13
7, 24, 25
8, 15, 17
(and know mulitiples of these)

21
New cards

perpendicular slope formula

a/b = -b/a

22
New cards

sum of angles in any polygon

sum = 180(n-2)

23
New cards

exponent rules

x^m x^n = x^m+n
(x^m)^n = x^m
*n

x^m / x^n = x^ m-n

x^-m = 1 / x^m
x^0 = 1
x^(m/n) = nth root(x^m)

24
New cards

absolute value formula

ex. |x-a|=b = x-a=b and x-a=-b
