nature and nurture debate
-+/- Freud argued that children experience biologically driven (innate) psychosexual development as they age. Freud emphasised the interaction of these innate stages with the child’s unique stages of life during each stage.
-for OCD and Sz , concordance rates are higher in MZ twins than DZ twins. However, the absence of 100% concordance impliess there’s an environemtal role too.
-accepting behaviour as primarily nature or nurture has significant implications, such as reduced sentences for criminals due to their genes suggesting theyre not fully responsible.
holism and reductionism
idiographic and nomothetic
-nomothetic data generalisiability +: is easier to replicate enabling generalisation of findings.standardised meothds and objective measurements.
-nomothetic superficial -: fixed crtieria do not give a complete picture of the individual e.g. two ppl with depression have different experiences
-idiographic data is rich, detailed data +: argued to be a more valid perspective on human behaviour.
-idiographic time-consuming -: due to the depth the research can be time consuming.
