What are the random sampling techniques
Random sampling, systematic sampling, stratified sampling
What are the non random sampling techniques
Opportunity (or convenience) sampling, quota sampling
What is a population
The whole set of items of interest
What is a census
Observation / measure of every memeber of the population
What is a sampling frame
A list of the population
What is a sampling unit
An individual item of the population
What is quantative data
Data that takes a numerical value
What is qualitative data
Data which is non numeric, can be catalegorical
What is continuous data
A variable which can take any value in a given range
What is discrete data
A variable that can only take specific values
What is a parameter
A numerical property of a population
What is a statistic
A numerical property of a sample
How do you do random sampling
Assign each e.g. date a value 1-x then use a random generator to get unique numbers
How to do systematic sampling
Select e.g. dates 1 every x down the list and use a random statting point within the 1st block
How to do stratified sampling
Find number of e.g. dates needed from each e.g. month, (number sayes in month / total number of dates) x number in sample, select sppropriate number of dayes using simple random sampling
