What can a force cause a stationary object to do?
A force can cause a stationary object to move.
What can a force cause a moving object to do?
A force can cause a moving object to move more quickly, more slowly, or change direction.
Weight
The force pulling an object towards the center of the Earth, measured in newtons (N), has a direction, and can change based on location.
Mass
The amount of matter in an object, measured in grams or kilograms, has no direction, and remains constant.
Formula for calculating weight from mass
Weight (in newtons) = mass (in kilograms) × 10.
Extension of a Spring
The extension of a spring is related to the force applied.
Elastic Limit
Springs have an elastic limit; stretching beyond this limit can result in the spring not returning to its original shape.
Moment of a Force
A force can cause an object to move in a circular manner (spin).
