The four main types of tissues
Epithelial
connective
Muscle
Nervous
Two ways to classify Epithelial tissues
By the NUMBER of LAYERS simple, stratified, pseudostratified
By the SHAPE of the cell squamous, Cuboidal, Columnar
Simple squamous
Structure: flat thin single-layer cell
Function: allows Diffusion and filtration
Location: alveoli of the lungs (air sacs of the lungs)
Simple cuboidal
Structure: cube-shaped cell
Function: Absorption and secretion
Location: lining of kidney tubules
Simple columnar
Structure: Tall column like cells
function: Absorption, secretion, and some protection
Location: Lining of digestive tract ( stomach and intestines)
Ciliated Pseudostratified columnar
Structure: looks like multiple layers but its just ONE layer in contact with the basement membrane
Function: Moves mucus
Location: the Trachea and bronchi
Transitional
location: Bladder and urinary tract
Rest: cuboidal stretched: squamous
