Circulatory System

Ensures that all parts of the body receive the oxygen and nutrients they need to function properly.

Heart

A muscular organ that pumps blood throughout the body.

It has four chambers

4 chambers of the Heart

2 Atrium (upper chambers)

2 Ventricle (lower chambers)

Right Atrium

This chamber receives oxygen-poor blood returning from the body through veins.

Left Atrium

Receives oxygen-rich blood from the lungs through the pulmonary veins.

Right Ventricle

Receives blood from the right atrium and pumps it to the lungs to pick up oxygen.

Left Ventricle

Receives blood from the left atrium and pumps it out to the body through the aorta,

providing oxygen and nutrients to all parts of the body.

Bicuspid Valve

Opens to let oxygen-rich blood from the left atrium into the left ventricle.

Then, it closes tightly to prevent blood from flowing back into the atrium when the ventricle contracts to pump blood out to the body

Tricuspid Valve

Opens to allow oxygen-poor blood from the right atrium into the right ventricle.

It then closes to prevent blood from flowing back into the atrium when the ventricle contracts and pumps blood to the lungs for oxygenation.

Arteries

Aorta

Pulmonary Artery

Carries oxygen-poor blood from the heart to the lungs to pick up oxygen and release carbon dioxide.

Once in the lungs, the blood exchanges gases and becomes oxygen-rich, ready to return to the heart.

Renal Arteries

Carry blood from the heart to the kidneys, where waste and extra fluids are filtered out.

This helps keep our blood clean and balanced.

Coronary Arteries

Supply oxygen and nutrients to the heart muscle itself, keeping the heart healthy and functioning properly.

Without these arteries, the heart wouldn't get the essential blood supply it requires to function properly.
