1
New cards

DCA (direct compounding area)

the area on the inside of your primary engineering control (PEC)

it receives uninterrupted airflow and is located where sterile compounding procedures are preformed

2
New cards

sIPA

sterile isopropyl alcohol

3
New cards

ACD

automatic compounding device

4
New cards

ISO 7 or 8 area

anteroom is primarily a location for handwashing and garbing

5
New cards

ISO 5 PEC area

(LAFW, CACI, CAI BSC)

refers to your (vertical or horizontal) workbenches, isolators or hood that provides an ISO class 5 environment

6
New cards

ISO 7 Buffer room

where PEC are located

Staff must be fully garbed to work in this room and specific activities are preformed for both daily and monthly cleaning

7
New cards

ISO 7 or 8 area

anteroom area is cleaned daily and monthly

a limited amount of supplies are stored in this area

8
New cards

General pharmacy area

it must be kept clean and organized for pre and post compounding procedures

9
New cards

Cleaning

a process by which an area becomes free from dirt, stains, particles and impurities

10
New cards

Disinfection

a process that reduces or eliminates all microbial contamination except spores

11
New cards

Cleaning and disinfection

part of an overall environmental contamination control plan

12
New cards

Basic Principles of Cleaning

Work from cleanest to dirtiest and from top to bottom

Turn lint free wipe to clean surface frequently

Work in one direction using linear overlapping strokes

Wet entire area with cleaning agent

13
New cards

USP requirements

surfaces inside of ISO workbenches must be cleaned with sIPA:

  1. at the beginning of shift

  2. every 30 minutes during active compounding

  3. after spills

  4. if contamination is known or suspected

  5. before each batch/patient

14
New cards

General cleaning sequence

trash removal and room cleanup

cleaning solution preparation - cleaning supplies are gathered, documentation

cleaning inside of PEC - keeping with the cleanest to dirtiest rule, the ISO class 5 work stations are cleaned first

clean room items - secondary items, chairs and carts, etc

floors - mop yourself out of the room and let the floors dry before re-entering. S style mopping

15
New cards

The primary reason

__ of cleaning and disinfecting: our desire to protect our patients

We want to ensure that sterile compounding occurs in the appropriate environment

16
New cards

USP 797 requirements

We must adhere to all __

does not specify the exact disinfectant to use but does provide
guidelines.
•Personnel who preform cleaning must be properly trained in all SOPs.
•Cleaning tools must be non-shedding and dedicated to the area of use.
•Compounding supplies must be removed from shipping cartons and wiped
with an approved sanitizing agent before introduction into the buffer room.
No pencils or paper towels are allowed in the buffer room

Daily cleaning

  1. 1. Empty trash bins- maybe done at end of prior day when compounding is
    complete.
    2. Cleaning with designated agent/solution and water
    3. All surfaces inside the PEC, ACD
    4. Counters
    5. Horizontal work surfaces ie: carts, chairs, sinks
    6. Re-stock the buffer room at end of day
    7. Floor cleaning from the farthest point in the cleanroom, cleaning your way
out of the buffer room through the anteroom.
