Changes for Women in politics
- given the right to vote in 1918
- by 1932 112 women were in the Reichstag + 10% were female
- more rights for women
Changes for women in work
- women went into paid work during WW1 but afterwards it went back
- women were paid less than men
- women expected to give up work after marriage
- large employment in retail and service
Changes for women in leisure
- greater earning power: more independence for young, single women
- women less interested in marriage, more interested in a good time
- behaviour of 'new women' not likes by others who felt traditional values were being lost
Opposition of new women
- some men thought it was inappropriate
- some said women should focus on being mothers
