Linear Model
A statistical model where the relationship between variables is modeled with a linear equation (y = mx + b + e).
ANOVA
Analysis of Variance; a statistical test used to analyze the differences between group means in a sample.
Post Hoc analysis
Statistical tests performed after ANOVA to determine which specific groups differ significantly from each other.
MLE
Maximum Likelihood Estimate. In the context of linear models it is y _ HA, representing the estimation of each group mean being distinct
F-tests
A statistical test used in ANOVA to determine if there is a significant difference between the means of two or more groups.
Variance
A measure of how spread out a data set is; the differences between sample means in ANOVA.
F Statistic
The test statistic calculated in ANOVA, representing the ratio of variance between sample means to the variance expected by chance.
Total Variance
The overall variability in a data set, calculated as the sum of squares total (SST).
Model Sum of Squares (SSR)
Variance explained by the model; represents the explained variability in the data.
Residual Sum of Squares (SSE)
Residual variance (error); represents the unexplained variability in the data after fitting the model.
