You receive a new soldier to your team, their uniform appears tight and they look overweight. what steps should you take as their new team leader
Figure out the last time your soldier was tested for height and weight, if they haven't been tested in more than six months, get them schedule for height and weight. the commander can also authorize a height and weight test if they believe the soldier looks unfit. If they are not within standards you should enroll them into the ABCP Program.
You have now enrolled the soldier into the ABCP, 30 Days have passed, what are your next steps in the program and when can you remove the soldier from the program? what is considered satisfactory progress?
every 30 days the commander will conduct a monthly ABCP assessment, this will measure the soldiers weight as well as fat loss progress. satisfactory progress is 3-8 pounds per month or 1 percent body fat. the commander or supervisor can remove the soldier from the ABCP program as soon as they meet body fat standards.
The soldier has now failed to make satisfactory progress, what are your next steps and what other conditions can result in separation?
the next step for the commander is to ask for a medical evaluation. if there is no finding of a medical problem the commander or supervisor will inform the soldier, in writing, that a bar to continued service, separation action or a transfer to the IRR is being initiated.
You have decided a soldier needs to be taped, how do you go about taping a male soldier? A female Soldier? Explain circumference sites and who needs to be in the room.
the standard for taping a soldier regardless of gender, it will be around the naval or stomach area. individuals taking the measurements will be the master fitness trainers of the unit, or a trained NCO in body circumference methodology. two members of the unit will take the measurements. soldiers should be measured by a trained same gender soldier from their unit, if that is not available a same gender soldier must be in the room at the time of taping.
As the team leader you need to facilitate your soldiers weight loss goals, what are some key components to weight loss, unsafe weight loss strategies, and some signs of eating disorders?
nutrition therapy-1 to 2 pound loss per week recommended/healthy diet
increased physical activity-30 minutes of physical activity 5-7 days per week
behavior modification-stress management/ sleep strategies
If you have a soldier that comes to you and he looks different than normal and he starts talking to you about loss he has experienced in his family and he says "he is not sure if its all worth it anymore", what are you going to talk to him about and what services are there that are provided to go seek professional help?
talk to the soldier about how they are feeling and try to care for the soldier, give the soldier an ACE card. Also talk to the soldier about talking to the Chaplin or setting up an appointment for behavioral health.
If a soldier has a family member that is thinking about harming themselves what programs can they use to go through?
the family member suicide prevention program.
What does suicide response team do and what are they responsible for?
the SRT will coordinate with the BH and Chaplin assests to respond to any known or suspected suicide in the organization by offering support to commanders.
In your own words, how can you as a team leader prevent suicide in your team and squad?
You can prevent suicide in your team or squad by caring for your soldiers. this includes knowing your soldiers and knowing when something is wrong. monthly counselings and room inspections will help to make sure nothing is wrong with your soldiers.
How does the golden triangle help support suicide prevention?
it connects the soldiers leader to his family and buddies .
You have a soldier who you know has access to weapons, he has been going through a hard time over the past few months, what are some things you can talk to them about? What actions can a CDR take?
you can talk him through his hard times and be there for him. let him know that things will get better. offer to take him to behavioral health or to see a chaplain.
Your soldier arrives to you from another unit and tells you about how he saved a soldiers life about three years ago and you are impressed with the story. You google it and find the incident and think soldiers should have been put in for a soldiers medal or something to recognize him; can you submit the award you think he deserves?
the soldier had to have an award initiated in two years following the incident. a member of congress can request consideration for a proposal. the only exception is it MOH, DSC, DSM
you are writing an award for your soldier that is pcsing and are struggling to come up with things she has done. You think back to your deployment with her and some of the things you did as a team and want to use those. you go into the soldiers counseling packet and pull out the DA form 638 she received for the deployment and find some good information to complete the last bullet. Have you solved your problem?
no you have not solved your problem because you can not use stuff from another award to recommend another award.
You have a soldier who has been in the army for three years, what award do you need to remind your squad leader to ask leadership about?
you need to remind your squad leader to remind leadership about the army good conduct medal.
That same soldier has received an article 15 for misconduct does that automatically disqualify the soldier?
no, the commander can authorize the medal as long as a soldier has not been court martialed.
If the commander deems the soldier should not be awarded the medal, what must happen ?
they have to make a memorandum saying why they dont recommend the soldier for the award.
you are a team leader and receive a new soldier in your team. you are instructed to give them a reception integration counseling. what is everything that is required in that counseling?
