AP Pre Calc: Graphing Parent Functions (1A)

This is mostly Algebra 2 review(?) but it's helpful to know for precalc.NON-TRIG parent functions, these flashcards help you graph parent function transformations easily by creating a table of x and y values/shows the significant points of parent functions. Absolute Value Function

Equation: y=|x|

X: -1 0 1

Y: -1 0 1

Quadratic Function

Equation: y=x²

X: -1 0 1

Y: -1 0 1

Square root Function

Equation: y=√x

X: 0 1 4

Y: 0 1 2

Cubic Function

Equation: y³

X: -1 0 1

Y: -1 0 1

Cube root function

Equation: y=3√x (its a cube root of x)

X: -1 0 1

pay attention to direction of this graph so it doesn’t get mixed up with the cubic function.

Step Function

Equation: y=[x]

X: [-1,0) [0, 1) [1, 2)

Y: -1. 0. 1

Logarithmic Function

Equation: y=log_b x; b>1

X: 1 b

Y: 0 1

Exponential Function

Equation: y=b^x; b>1

X: 0 1

Y: 1 b

Rational Function (Reciprocal)

Equation: y=1/x

X: -1 1

Y: -1 1

Rational Function (Squared Reciprocal)

Equation: 1/x²
