Plasma membrane

Controls the passage of organic molecules, ions, water, and oxygen into and out of the cell.

Nucleus

Houses the cell's DNA and directs the synthesis of ribosomes and proteins.

Cytoplasm

Liquid inside the cell.

Nucleolus

This area is where ribosomal RNA is packaged with proteins to assemble the subunits that form ribosomes.

Ribosomes

Structures made of RNA and proteins, and are the site of protein synthesis.

Vesicles and vacuoles

Membrane‐bound sacs that function in storage and transport.

Mitochondria

Responsible for making adenosine triphosphate (ATP).

Cytoskeleton

Maintains a cell's shape and allows movement of a cell.

Chloroplasts

Organelles found in plants and some protists that carry out photosynthesis.

Golgi apparatus

stack of membranes in the cell that modifies, sorts, and packages proteins from the endoplasmic reticulum

Endoplasmic Reticulum

an internal membrane system in which components of cell membrane and some proteins are constructed

Flagella

A long, whip-like filament that helps in cell motility.

Cell Wall

A rigid structure that surrounds the cell membrane and provides support to the cell
