How can you identify the topic of writing?
-Found at the beginning of a passage or paragraph within the introduction. Sometimes can be stated explicitly or implicitly.
-You can ask yourself what is the paragraph/passage/writing MOSTLY about?
Describe what the main idea is?
It's the overall POINT the author is trying to make. You can ask yourself what is the author talking about in this paragraph. What is the authors claim or message.
What helps support, explain, and develop the main idea?
Supporting details; look for clues, examples, reasons, consequences, purpose, or results
What are key points?
They are supporting details with evidence of the main idea such as facts and descriptions. It is the most important ideas in the paragraph. It's the information you need to remember.
