• i.e. ebola, viral hemorrhagic fever, high dangerous & exotic microbes

Contact enteric precautions

• hand hygiene before and after

  • sanitizer BEFORE, hand and soap AFTER

• wear [gown, glove], and face PPE

• i.e. acute diarrhea, C. diff, norovirus, rotavirus

Droplet precautions

• hand hygiene before and after

• wear [mask], eye PPE w/ respiratory, standard PPE w/ secretion contact

• i.e. influenza, meningitis, pertussis, respiratory viruses, mumps

Contact precautions

• hand hygiene before and after

• wear [gown, glove], face PPE not necessary

• i.e. highly drug resistant organisms (gram-neg/ESBL, MRSA, VRE), scabies, wounds or abscesses w/uncontained drainage

Aerosol Contact precautions

• hand hygiene before and after

• wear gown, glove, and face PPE

  • n95 or equivalent ONLY

• door closed

• i.e. novel respiratory viruses (COVID-19)

Airborne respirator/contact precautions

• restricted visitation, only if immune

• hand hygiene before and after

• wear [gown, gloves, and face PPE]

  • n95 or PAPR ONLY

• negative pressure, door closed

• i.e. SARS, MERS, measles, novel highly pathogenic avian influenza
