What are atoms made up of?
Protons, neutrons and electrons
Where are protons & neutrons located?
In the centre of the atom/nucleus
Where are electrons located?
Outside the nucleus
Why are all atoms neutral?
They contain an equal amount of positive protons and negative electrons.
What is the mass and charge of a proton?
1 and +1
What is the mass and charge of a neutron?
1 and 0
What is the mass and charge of an electron?
0 and -1
What does the atomic number equal to?
The number of protons
What is the mass number equal to?
Number of protons + number of neutrons
Why do elements in the same group have similar chemical properties?
They have the same number of outer electrons.
What are isotopes?
Atoms which have the same atomic number but different mass numbers.
What are 7 diatomic elements?
Bromine, Oxygen, Nitrogen, Chlorine, Hydrogen, Iodine, Fluorine
When is a covalent bond formed?
When two non-metal atoms share a pair of electrons.
What are all molecules held together by?
Covalent bonds
