McCarthyism
Named after Republican Senator Joseph McCarthy of Wisconsin; the systematic persecution of "Communists" in government with little to know bias behind the accusations; this was a power grab by McCarthy to persecute political opponents and play on American xenophobia and fear of the USSR at the time
Deep Sell
A way of advertising in which the meaning is not openly present at first glance; and requires the audience to think more deeply to absorb the meaning of the ad
Hard Sell
Simple, to the point advertising with obvious intent; uses memorable imagery, catchphrases, and jingles in order to instill the idea and the purpose of the product being sold into the mind of the potential consumer
Hipsterism
Developed by young African Americans in the 1930s who struggled to fit into society at large, they created their own counterculture in which they created their own norms that opposed conventions of conformist culture in the United States.
