The Wave Hill Walk Off

  • Involved significant protest by the Gurindji people against the conditions of their work and land rights, which occurred in 1966 and lasted for several years.

  • Involved a man named Vincent Lingiari.

  • Cattlemen initially strike for their working condition in cattle farms, it lasted 7 years!!! It happened in Wave Hill, a cattle farm.

  • The strike eventually evolved into a broader movement for Aboriginal land rights, symbolizing the fight for justice and recognition of Indigenous people's heritage.

  • It ended in 1975 with the formal handover of land rights (Aboriginal Land Rights Act 1976) to the Gurindji people, leading to a significant milestone in the Aboriginal land rights movement in Australia.
