Protecting against attacks on system resources (like hardware, operating systems, and applications) by malicious programs.

What are two common types of malware (malicious software)?

1. Viruses

2. Worms (Also ransomware, spyware, adware)

Describe a Virus malware.

A malicious, self-replicating program that embeds itself into other code. It requires human action (user interaction) to spread and can damage system software, alter/delete files, or disable functions.

Describe a Worm malware.

A malicious stand-alone program that often targets network resources. It can spread without user interaction and causes damage by consuming bandwidth, deleting files, or installing backdoors for attackers.
