Conduction
The transfer of thermal energy from hotter regions to colder regions through particle collisions.
Thermal energy store
The energy contained within an object due to the motion and arrangement of its particles.
Insulator
A material that is a poor conductor of heat and electricity.
Thermal conductivity
A measure of how well a material conducts thermal energy.
Temperature
A measure of how hot a substance is, measured in degrees Celsius (°C).
Heat
A measure of the energy in the thermal energy store of an object, measured in joules (J).
Kinetic energy
The energy an object possesses due to its motion.
Particles
Small components that make up all materials and substances.
Thermal energy transfer
The process of thermal energy moving from a region of higher temperature to a lower temperature.
Conductor
A material that allows the flow of thermal energy easily.
