Johari Window Model
A framework developed by Luft and Ingham to enhance self-awareness by mapping four areas of the self: Open, Blind, Hidden, and Unknown.
Open Self (Johari Window)
What is known to you and known by others.
Blind Self (Johari Window)
What is unknown to you but known by others.
Hidden Self (Johari Window)
What is known to you but not known by others.
Unknown Self (Johari Window)
What is unknown to both you and others.
Self-Concept
One’s abstract general idea about oneself, including values, perspectives, and behavior.
Self-Concept: Learned
Self-concept develops over time; no one is born with it.
Self-Concept: Organized
You may hear others’ views but keep your own view as right.
Self-Concept: Dynamic
As a person encounters problems, self-concept may change.
Self-Awareness
The ability to recognize and understand one’s own thoughts, emotions, behaviors, and motivations; awareness of how you affect others and drive decisions.
Self-Worth
Belief that you are valuable and deserving of love, respect, and good things, regardless of achievements or others’ opinions.
Self-Love
Valuing and caring for yourself emotionally, mentally, and physically; accepting yourself and showing kindness.
Id
In Freud’s theory, the pleasure-principle-driven part of personality that seeks immediate gratification.
Ego
The reality-principle part of personality that mediates between the id and the superego to satisfy desires in socially acceptable ways.
Superego
The moral component of personality that holds judgments of right and wrong learned from family and environment.
