False Dichotomy

A situation in which two alternative points of view are presented as the only options

Post Hoc or False Cause

B comes after A, so A directly caused B to happen

Missing the Point

A logical argument is given yet the stated conclusion is something else

Slippery Slope

An idea or course of action which will lead to something unacceptable, wrong, or disastrous

Appeal to Authority

Using an expert figure when they really aren't an expert at all. Ex: Shaq in the insurance ad

Appeal to Pity

Getting someone to give you what you want by making them feel sorry for you and your situation

Hasty Generalization

Making a snap judgement of something when a relevant sample size is not given

Straw Man

Anticipating and refuting your opponent's points, making them look weak and dumb
