Assessment of Human Performance
Measurement
Assigning a valie to a certain performance or attribute
Test
Tool/procedure that are utilized to make a measurement
Evaluation
A judgement/conclusion made after performing a test and analyzing the statistics found
Assessment
A combination of measurement, test, and evaluation
Why is testing and analysis important for achievement?
It allows people to see if they are making progress
Why is testing and analysis important for making predictions?
You can predict who is better suited to perform certain tasks
Why is testing and analysis important for diagnosis?
It allows you to see where an athlete has weaknesses
Criterion referenced tests
results are compared to a standard
Norm-referenced tests
results are compared to where everyone else is at (the norm)
Content validity
whether or not a test measures based on the content it is supposed to
Criterion validity
Whether or not the results of a test agree with a criterion test
What are some factors that affect validity?
characteristics of the test takers and the criterion measure selected
What establishes reliability?
The consistency of the measurement
What are some factors that affect reliability?
method of scoring, length of a test, heterogeneity of a group, administration procedures
Parallel forms
basically asking the same question in a different way
Objectivity
No bias affect the results of a test
How can objectivity be increased?
having clear/consistent instructions, keeping procedures simple, using good quality tools, and ensuring that results are assessed quantitatively
Accuracy
means that a measurment was actually accurate
Can something still be valid even if the measurement was a little off?
Yes it is still valid because the test was able to distinguish big differences
Precision/resolution
How close of a measurement you can get - tothe decimal point
Calibration
ensuring that all testing equipment used gives an accurate measurement
Administrative feasability
Giving a test to someone who is actually able to perform the test. Is it relevant to them?
What are some factors that affect administrative feasibility?
time, money, vigor of a test, medication, temperature, test administrator
Specificity
Maximal testing
The athlete is performing the test with maximum effort so you are able to get the most accurate results
What is a disadvantage to maximal testing?
Typically very vigorous test and you can’t always tell if an athlete is really giving their best effort.
submaximal testing advantages
less vigorous and safer option for the majority of the population
submaximal testing disadvantages
less accurate because you have to guess what their results would be if they were performing full out
Should a sedentary male who is disbetic but has no signs or symptoms obtain medical clearance before exercising?
yes
Should a semi-active female who gets a little lightheaded sometimes obtain medical clearance before exercising?
yes
Should a sedentary individual with no signs/symptoms and no known disease issues obtain medical clearance before exercising?
no
Should an active individul with renal disesase that has no signs or symptoms obtain medical clearance before exercising?
yes
stress, motivation, time of day, food/caffeine/nicotine, environment, etc.
factors that can influence testing
What are the three factors used in grading?
Affective, cognitive, psychomotor
What do affective factors have to do with?
behavior
What do cognitive factors have to do with?
A person’s knowledge about something
What do psychomotor factors have to do with?
Physcial performance
What is an authentic assessment?
Finding a way to assess individuals as realistically as possible to five a true look at their ability.
What is a portfolio?
Collection of different kinds of works done by a person over time.
What is a formative assessment?
Repeated assessment over time
What is a summative assessment?
basically the final exam
Technique assessment
focused on form
End result
how the athlete did in the end no matter what their technique was
Norm-referenced grading
your grade depends on how you did compared to everyone else
Criterion referenced grading
The amount of work that an someone does on their own excluding how others did
Standard deviation
How much variation there is from the average
What are the four components of the psychomotor domain?
Physical, motor, fitness, play
Physical component of the psychomotor domain
looking at an individual’s structure
Motor component of the psychomotor domain
movement and the execution of that move
Fitness component of the psychomotor domain
how much can you do?
Play component of the psychomotor domain
the end result of the other three components
Plan, develop schedule, let them practice, prepare scoring, training test assistants, provide all necessary equipment
pre-test responsibilities
Give test instructions, demonstrate, if time allows get reaction to test
In-test responsibilities
Score test items, determine grade, interpret test results to students, evaluate the test
Posttest responsibilities
What is being measured?
Whar is required of a good test?
Analyze the performance
Review the literature
Devise the test items
Prepare directions
Have the test reviewed by qualified individuals
Administer the test to a small group
Determine val, rel, obj, etc.
Develop norms
Intercorrelations
Test construction guidelines
5 components of health-related fitnss according to the ACSM
cardiorespiratory fitness, flexibility, muscular strength, muscular endurance, body composition
3 components of skill-related fitness accordin to the ACSM
Agility, speed, distance/accuracy
