Describe reasons that religious believers might have for disagreeing with religious extremism.

  • it may offend people with different views, beliefs or religion

  • The religion extremism actions may go against the human rights of other

  • It could result in violence and pain

  • It can destoy harmony between groups even resulting in war e.g.

  • the extremeism could oppose important religious teachings e.g. agape ( gods unconditional love.) Or it could even be misinterpretation of religious authority.

  • For christians for instance desire to follow in Jesus footsteps when he helped the homeless and beggers with his miracles and feeding them.

  • Sometimes people are in vulnerable positions and need to be protected from the influence of people e.g radicalisation

  • Sometimes are vulnerable and shouldnt be exposed to certain themes e.g 18+ films and pornography

  • just because one person finds something subjectively offensive doesnt mean everyone else will 

  • historical abuse of power - many examples of illegitamate censorships e.g nazis, slavary of african people 

  • should not be up to the government to decide what its citerzens can say - could result in dictatorship 

  • censorship could result in even greater backlash
