aquinas’ first principle
good should be done, evil should be avoided
man is naturally inclined toward good, but good is hard to follow since it is abstract, therefore we must follow the 7 concrete goods:
1. life - inherent right to life
reproduction
education - inclination to protect and educate
seek god
live in society
avoid offense
know the truth - pursuit of truth and wisdom
how could evil have arisen in a world made by a perfect god?
natural law is not enough for human beatitude and salvation, man also needs divine law (commandments).
god designed natural law so humans can participate in god’s eternal law.
intrinsically flawed action
directing oneself against a good (murder, lying, etc)
