EAR DROPS aka
EAR DROPS
Solutions of one or more active ingredients which exert a local effect in the ear:
By softening ear wax, treating infection or inflammation
EAR DROPS
These are usually placed in the ear canal by drops or in small amounts for the removal of excessive cerumen (ear wax) for the treatment of ear infections, inflammation or pain.

combination of sweat and sebaceous gland of the internal auditory canal
Carbamide peroxide
EARWAX-SOFTENING AGENTS INCLUDE
twice a day for 4 days, and the ear canal may be irrigated with the use of an ear syringe
Carbamide peroxide should used
To prevent vertigo, one should warm the vial of this medication in the hands and put 5-10 drops in the ear

Vertigo
releases oxygen and via mechanical action of effervescence (formation of bubbles), loosens the wax debris and aids its removal
Action: Carbamide peroxide

only approved safe and effective for earwax removal.
Do not use if ear drainage, discharge, pain or irritation or rash occurs
Do not use if injury or perforation of the ear drums exists
If the patient feels pain or severe fullness in the ear when instilling drops in the ear, this might indicate the presence of aruptured tympanic membrane (damage/ripped ear drums)
CAUTIONS
olive oil, mineral oil , glycerin, diluted hydrogen peroxide (same MOA with Carbamide peroxide) solution, propylene glycol, baking soda solution

have gained popularity but not recommended.
This is a hollow fabric cone impregnated with beeswax or paraffin and is about 1 foot long.
triethanolamine polypeptide oleate (Cerumenex) may be used for impacted earwax. This is available for prescription

Water to 100 mL 15 ml
MASTER FORMULA FOR NaHCO3 EAR DROPS, BP
For the softening and removal of earwax, usually prior to syringing with warm water
ACTION AND USES
Based on 10-mL preparation 15Ml
Weigh 500 780 mg sodium bicarbonate and dissolve in 6 mL water
Carefully make up to 7 mL of water
Carefully add glycerol up to 10 mL mark
Pack in a 10-mL hexagonal amber, ribbed bottle with dropper
Polish and label the bottle on the three smooth sides
METHOD OF PREPARATION
Shake well before use, and not to be taken. For external use only
The bottle may be warmed in the hands before placing drops in the ear.
A patient information leaflet should be used to describe how to use the drops
