All Parts of a Microscope
Eyepiece lens, Nosepiece, objective lens, clips, stage, condenser, mirror/light source, fine adjustment, coarse adjustment
The Eyepiece lens
Magnifies the image
Nosepiece
Revolves to move the desired lens into position
Objective lens
Magnifies the image. There are three objective lenses, scanning lens with 4x, low power with 10x, and high power with 40x
Clips
Hold the slide in place
Stage
Holds the slide which contains the specimen
Condenser
Focuses light on the object
Mirror or light source
Supplies light to the object
Fine adjustment
Typically smaller knob used for precise focusing
Coarse adjustment
Typically larger knob used for rough focusing
Total magnification
The magnifying power of the eyepiece lens x the magnifying power of the objective lens. E.g. Eyepiece= 10x Objective= 4x Total magnification= 40x
Using a microscope
Start of lowest magnification, place slide on stage and lock with clips, adjust light source, use coarse adjustment, use fine adjustment, view
Types of Microscope
Light Microscope, and electron microscope
Light Microscope
Sends a beam of light through the cells, which is then focused by the two lenses, the eyepiece and the objective.
Electron Microscope
Sends a beam of electrons through the cells, focuses them with electromagnets to illuminate the specimen
